The Society for Supporting Women and Children Refugees (Hami) began its work in the form of voluntary actions following the Balkan crises in 1992 which left endless human crimes in the Bosnia Herzegovina region, with the aim of helping and supporting numerous women and children who were the victims of racial biases.
On the other hand, presence in the disturbed Middle East region and neighboring countries which are in critical conditions such as Iraq and Afghanistan, has placed Iran in a sensitive situation of hosting and accepting more than 4 million displaced refugees from the bordering countries. Thus, a considerable portion of the Society’s activities focus on supporting and relief works to Iraqi and Afghan refugees especially to women and children. The Hami Society (supporting refugee women and children) has entered into this task since 1989 according to the all- sided humanitarian responsibility and along side its objectives to help relieve and improve the conditions of Afghan and Iraqi women and children refugees and is continually helping to promote their potentials and play an appropriate role in not only improving their own life but also their community and even their country .In the first steps for the advancement of women ,training facilities were provided for literacy, education, health, family planning, vocational training and increasing their social participation as a means of developing their gender awareness .
